Entertainment Unlimited to host Five Star Event: Free Speech Panel Discussion

Ferris State University’s Entertainment Unlimited will host a five-star event, the “Free Speech Panel Discussion,” on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 202 of the University Center.

Event attendees, including Ferris students, will hear from attorney CL Lindsay III, a nationally-recognized expert and leader in students’ rights and academic freedom. Lindsay’s book, “The College Student’s Guide to the Law,” is used by students, university counsel, and in master’s and law courses, nationwide.

Thursday’s panel is designed to inform students about their rights, what they can and cannot say, and free speech in the media and social media.

“We discussed bringing an outside speaker or utilizing Ferris faculty and staff, and decided to go with both – to have a diverse panel discussion,” said Nicholas Smith, the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services’ coordinator of activities and adviser to EU. “CL has been at Ferris before to discuss legal issues on the college campus. When bringing up free speech, it just made sense to reach out to him as well as departments around campus, such as Public Safety and Student Conduct.”

Entertainment Unlimited is Ferris’ legacy five-star campus programming board. EU, a registered student organization, coordinates a variety of events each semester, including comedy shows, film showings, novelties and more. For more information call (231) 591-2610 or email [email protected].
