Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team to Entertain During Ferris’ Family and Friends Weekend Oct. 20

Chicago BoyzParents, visitors and Ferris State University students will be treated to a dynamic presentation on Saturday, Oct. 20 when the Chicago Boyz acrobatic team shows off its routines in Williams Auditorium, in a free performance beginning at 8 p.m.

Entertainment Unlimited programmer Kaylee Britten said Student Activity Funds were used to bring in this vibrant, professional talent to add to the festivities during Ferris’ Family and Friends Weekend.

“The Chicago Boyz received national attention for their performances during Season Eight of NBC-TV’s ‘America’s Got Talent,’ which aired in 2013,” Britten said. “With the tumbling, jump rope routines and mini-trampoline jumps, there will be plenty of action for the audience to enjoy.”

Financial Aid Office Coordinator of Outreach Programs Melanie Mulder is the Parents Committee spokeswoman. She said the Chicago Boyz’ performance will be one of the highlight events for their third annual Family and Friends Weekend.

“We believe their organizational backstory should appeal both to our students and parents,” Mulder said.

The team was founded in 1999 when professional gymnast Tim Shaw sought out inner-city youth to promote discipline, respect, hard work, integrity and teamwork among participants. Chicago Boyz members must maintain a “C” average in school, are not allowed to drop out of school, associate with gangs, drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

Anyone requiring accommodation to participate in this event is invited to contact Mulder at (231) 591-2121. Requests for assistance should be made at least 72 hours in advance.
