Students to Gain Career Perspectives from `Panel of Pros' Five-Star Event Nov. 5

Ferris State UniversityA modified lineup has been developed for the fourth annual “Panel of Pros” Five-Star campus presentation at Ferris State University, set for Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the University Center ballroom.

The Chi Omega Pi chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the Criminal Justice honor society, has organized the 90-minute presentation. Chapter president Bailey Sargent, a senior from East Jordan, said there was an effort made to invite professionals from the human services sector, along with criminal justice professionals.

“We are glad to a variety of professionals who practice in a number of Michigan communities to present to us that evening,” Sargent said. “With Tuscola County Medical Examiner’s investigator Elaine Fiorillo, Midland County Sheriff Scott Stephenson, A.J. Kitchen, a custody and parenting time specialist with the Oakland County courts and her associate in the Friend of the Court, Shelly Wine, as our panelists, we hope to have a more eclectic group and message to serve a broader student audience.”

Sargent said after each of the panelists speaks about their career paths and current duties, students will be encouraged to pose their own questions to one or more of these professionals.

“This is our largest networking event on Alpha Phi Sigma’s annual schedule,” Sargent said. “It was our goal to see that students taking part would leave with greater insight about potential career paths.”

Sargent said their chapter also organizes “Volley for the Pups,” a one-day volleyball tournament to raise funds for the Osceola County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. That event will be held later in the academic year.

“It is a fun opportunity to gather support for a good cause as the officer and department benefit from our yearly donation,” Sargent said. “Alpha Phi Sigma chapters across the country strive to provide philanthropic support for the law enforcement community.
