Free Housing, Affordable Options Available to Qualified Summer Semester Students, Full-Time Student Employees

Ferris State UniversityThose students taking at least six credit hours of Summer 2018 semester classes, through online instruction or on Ferris State University’s main campus in Big Rapids, are reminded that a variety of housing options are available from Housing and Residence Life.

The offer also applies to those students of the university who are working full-time jobs on Ferris’ campus during the summer. Housing and Residence Life director Bryan Marquardt said these students will also need to have a signed housing contract for the Fall 2018 semester to qualify for the program.

“We hope that many students will select the opportunity that suits their work or study schedule, and budget,” Marquardt said. “The free option is available to those students who agree to share a room in Cramer Hall, the largest residence facility on campus.”

Those students who wish to have a single room in Cramer Hall would be required to pay $500 for the summer semester. Dining options at The Rock have been developed and details are available from the Housing and Residence Life website.

Marquardt said a number of other residence facilities are available for tenancy during this time.

“West Campus Apartments two-or three-bedroom units, without air conditioning, will be available for $621 per person and that apartment-style, with air conditioning, can be contracted for $690 per person,” Marquardt said. “Each of those options provide a full kitchen, and are unfurnished. The four-bedroom apartments will be let for $759 per person. There are family rates available for the two-and three-bedroom apartments. East Campus Suites feature inclusive options of air conditioning, cable television, full furnishing and kitchen facilities along with refuse service at a $690 charge, for the-four bedroom model, and $850 for our two-bedroom suites.”

Marquardt said that these facilities will be open to all students with approved summer housing contracts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 13.

“We began contracting for this semester on Monday, Feb. 19,” Marquardt said. “Our staff is interested in hearing for any student who wishes to consider these options, whether the choice is to advance toward the completion of their degree, or to live within walking distance of their employment on campus.”

Housing and Residence Life staff are also pleased to discuss this initiative with those university departments who are looking to secure student employees for the summer.
