Summer Internship: Corey Green

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Corey GreenCorey Green

He is: a fourth-year student who will graduate from the College of Business in May 2019, with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a minor in Accounting.

Corey’s Internship: He is a member of the revenue team at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. “I have learned how to prevent losses, internally, throughout the company in the Revenue Accounting Department. I used a couple software systems to narrow into potential areas of loss. So far, the revenue team and myself have caught more than 10 employees stealing and have recovered thousands of dollars.”

Ferris’ Part in Helping Corey Secure the Internship: “The hiring manager was from Michigan and respected Ferris State’s College of Business.”

Corey’s Advice for Students Seeking Internships: “I would recommend that students should start networking as soon as possible. Make sure you apply to many internships and do not be too picky on your first one. Do not get discouraged if you get cut in the final rounds of interviews or get denied the position, use it as motivation to find another opportunity.”

Other Activities on Campus: “I am part of FMA (Financial Management Association), which is a registered student organization.”

Future Plans: “I hope to land a financial analyst position in greater Grand Rapids or the Detroit Metro area.”
