Ferris State University will host its 18th annual Torchbearer Awards event on Thursday, April 26. Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served beginning at 6 p.m. in the University Center. The awards ceremony commences at 7 p.m. in the UC ballroom.

Sarah Pirrami, a Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services student assistant and Torchbearer coordinator, said CLACS has Ferris State Universityselected specific honors for students who achieve excellence in their leadership efforts, such as the Rising Star and Torchbearer awards. There will also be other award presentations made at the event with the recipients determined by members of the Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils.

“We have so many leaders, both current and future, being awarded this year,” Pirrami said. “From my perspective, it’s extremely rewarding to see them recognized for all their hard work and dedication during their time at Ferris.”

Pirrami said the ceremony is designed to highlight the collaboration and teamwork within a variety of university departments.

“It’s definitely a learning experience, planning the Torchbearer Awards, the last few months,” Pirrami said. “It’s been such a privilege to work with the CLACS office, throughout this process, and I’m excited to see the event come alive on April 26.”

Registered student organizations that have demonstrated outstanding achievement in campus participation and program offerings will be recognized with the Five Star Award. There will also be an RSO Advisor of the Year Award selected from a field of nominees.

Pirrami said the Torchbearer Leadership and Service Award ceremony capsulizes a portion of the university vision statement by promoting “A stimulating, student-centered academic environment that fosters lifelong engagement, leadership and citizenship.”
