Approximately 1,000 Ferris State University students planning to participate in commencement exercises Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 are expected to attend the university’s Spring 2017 Grad Fair, Tuesday, March 28 in the University Center.
Kevin Bunce, coordinator of Alumni Relations, said beyond securing a cap and gown for graduation during the fair, the organizers hope to encourage students to decorate the mortarboards prior to the ceremony.
“Cap decorating should be better than ever this year,” Bunce said. “We are putting on a contest, in collaboration with the News Services and Social Media office of University Advancement and Marketing. There will be a variety of prizes awarded, including a diploma frame, and Ferris professional gear, to help graduates move into their careers.”
Tickets for commencement will also be available beginning that day. The e-tickets must be reserved prior to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, to guarantee the student receives up to six e-tickets for family, and other guests. Those tickets can be printed, emailed or saved on an electronic device.
Bunce said there will be a variety of university staff on hand, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the day of the Graduation Fair, to offer assistance that includes financial aid information, resume critiques, and making a free digital photo available to students.
“Students should be hearing from the staff member in their college, who is the liaison for commencement,” Bunce said. “All graduating seniors are welcome to attend the fair, and no reservations necessary for that event.”
Bunce added there will be hourly giveaways, along with refreshments. Caps and gowns will remain available at the University Bookstore through Wednesday, May 3, but to successfully acquire the proper sizes, purchase of these items by Wednesday, April 19 is recommended.
Grad Fair is a collaborative effort of the Alumni office, the Commencement office and the Ferris State University Bookstore, a division of Barnes and Noble.
