Friday, Aug. 25 got off to an early, active start for transfer student Aaron Morrison, of Harper Woods, and freshman Robert Gay, of Detroit, who have begun to arrange the third-floor room they will share in Ferris State University’s Clark Hall. Morrison and Gay were among students to arrive on campus for the first major move-in day of the 2017-18 academic year.

Morrison began his college studies at Wayne County Community College and will pursue a degree in Digital Animation and Game Design.

“This is an adjustment for me, pretty much the first time I have been away from home,” Morrison said. “I am definitely sold on the DAGD program. Most of my credits transferred from WCCC, and I feel like I have a good grasp of what there is to get out of the program.”

Morrison said he will be taking a job on campus, and is pleased that getting to work will not be difficult.

“I have an afternoon orientation session at The Rock Café,” Morrison said. “I also plan on getting around campus this weekend, so I know where I am going for my classes, and finding any other help I might need.”

Freshman Robert Gay, of Detroit returned to join Morrison in their room.

“Robert seems like a cool guy,” Morrison said. “We have just met, and have got the chance to talk a little bit.”

Gay is planning to study Marketing and Advertising, in the College of Business, and said his family made the three-and-a-half hour trip, from Detroit, to make the 8 a.m. arrival on Move-In Day.

“I got up early to get here,” Gay said. “I am excited and ready to get started.”

In all, 3,290 students have contracted to take their place in Ferris’ residence halls, East Campus Suites and West Campus Apartments, as fall semester classes begin on Monday, Aug. 28. The Office of Housing and Residence Life indicates it is at 99 percent of capacity, in terms of available facilities in use, across the Big Rapids campus.
