Ferris State University’s Student Government organization is set to host the annual
Women Investing in Leadership and Learning Conference on Monday, March 21 in University
Center, Room 202. The conference is free, open to the public and begins at 6 p.m.
Denise Beachy will be this year’s keynote speaker. Beachy is president and chair of the Hemlock Semiconductor Group, comprised of several joint venture companies owned, in majority, by Dow Corning Corporation. The theme of this year’s conference is “Leadership and Career Advancement” and Beachy plans to talk about her professional experiences as a leader with the Hemlock Semiconductor Group.
“W.I.L.L. Conference is a one-day conference that encourages students and the community to come together and network with each other as well as other leaders within the workplace,” said Chris Cipko, director of operations for Student Government. “The goal of the conference is to provide attendees with valuable knowledge and leadership skills through interaction with several successful women guest speakers, as well as discussion points and engagement within several breakout sessions.”
Hors d'oeuvres and light refreshments will be provided during the event.
W.I.L.L. is supported through funding from the Student Government Association. Student Government has collaborated with co-sponsor organizations, including Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic and the Office of Multicultural Student Services.
“By recruiting a diverse crowd of people to attend the conference, FSU Student Government strives to provide young college students of all backgrounds with the inspiration to set both personal and professional goals in addition to supplying them with the tools that will facilitate success,” Cipko added.
In addition to Beachy, as keynote speaker in UC, Room 202, the conference features breakout sessions in nearby University Center rooms 203, 209, 211 and 213. More specifics will be announced to conference attendees on March 21.
Breakout session presenters are listed below:
- Ashley Hixson, founder and director of The Collegiate Voice, sponsored by OMSS. Hixson will host a session titled, “Share Your Voice: Sharing your collegiate experiences inside and outside of the classroom.”
- Lt. Natalie King, of the Michigan State Police. Her topic is still to be determined.
- Michele Albright, from Ferris’ Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services. Albright plans to focus on “branding yourself for success.”
- Julie Doyle, from Ferris’ Hospitality Management program, will present. Her topic is yet to be determined.
