Department of Public Safety Warns Against Scam of caller who claims to work on behalf of a local police Targeting Students

The Ferris State University Department of Public Safety has asked that the community be aware of an ongoing scam that has been, so far, targeted at students.

Students are being contacted by a caller who claims to work on behalf of a local police agency. The caller then advises the student that a warrant has been issued for his or her arrest. The student is then offered an opportunity to avoid arrest, and/or the loss of college credits, if they can deliver an amount of money.

Ferris DPS warns that this call is a scam. Students who receive this call should inform the caller that they are going to immediately call the police. Students should then hang up to end the call. No student should send cash, personal checks, money orders or any other form of payment to this caller.

Any student who believes that they have been targeted, or has any questions, should call the Ferris DPS at (231) 591-5000.
