Fine Art Gallery to Debut ‘Indie Incubator: All About the Vinyl’ Exhibit, Jan. 29

Ferris State UniversityFerris State University will showcase appreciation for a blend of art and music with the “Indie Incubator: All About the Vinyl” exhibit that debuts Friday, Jan. 29 in the Fine Art Gallery. The Fine Art Gallery is located in University Center, Room 205.

The exhibit was developed to showcase the independent work of Ferris and Kendall College of Art and Design students relative to drawings, graphic design, photography, plastics and historic vinyl albums from the Don Halm collection. The collection was an in-kind donation made by Ted Halm, the university’s Web content manager, on behalf of his late father.

“Indie Incubator: All About the Vinyl” is based on the Smithsonian Folkways’ mission to transcend barriers through the cultural diversity of music and musicians.

“The images and objects in this exhibit are inspired by the Smithsonian Folkways record label,” said Carrie Stermer, director of the Fine Art Gallery. “I believe that art does the same thing so I invited students to create images and artwork in support of those concepts.”

The Fine Art Gallery hosts shows and exhibits designed to educate, enrich and engage faculty, staff, students, community members and other visitors. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

The exhibit’s opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Art Gallery.
