Ferris to Host one of Mid Michigan Community Action Agency’s Walk for Warmth Events

Walk for WarmthMid Michigan Community Action Agency has announced its 25th annual Walk for Warmth events, scheduled for early 2016. The outdoor walk events will raise funds for the Emergency Utility Assistance Program, which provides assistance to households facing heating emergencies across mid-Michigan.

“The goal of the Walk for Warmth events is to keep our friends and neighbors safe and warm,” said Jill Sutton, executive director of Mid Michigan. “By working together, we can give a hand-up to households struggling to pay for heating costs, including many that are not be eligible for other Mid Michigan programs.”

Mid Michigan will host three Saturday Walk for Warmth events, in 2016:

  • Feb. 20 at Ferris State University, in Big Rapids, Mich., serving Mecosta and Osceola counties
  • Feb. 27 at the Doherty Hotel, in Clare, Mich., serving Clare and Gladwin counties
  • March 5 at the Midland Center for the Arts, in Midland, Mich., serving Bay and Midland counties

On Saturday, Feb. 20, the event will begin at Ferris' Student Recreation Center, located at 401 South Street in Big Rapids.

For all three events, registration starts at 9 a.m. and the events begin with a brief indoor kick-off ceremony at 10 a.m. Events are open to all ages and will feature entertainment, refreshments, prize giveaways and more.

Funds raised at each event will stay in the counties assigned to each Walk for Warmth – ensuring that donors will have a direct impact in the lives of individuals and families in their communities.

In 2015, Mid Michigan helped heat 335 households across Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola counties. Many of the homes included children under the age of 18, senior citizens, people living with disabilities and veterans.

Mid Michigan Community Action Agency is a non-profit, human services agency serving Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola counties since 1966.
