Department of Public Safety Warns Against Scam Targeting Students

The Ferris State University Department of Public Safety encourages students to be aware of a phone scam in which a caller tells a student that he or she owes an “education tax” that needs to be paid.

The scammers use a Federal Bureau of Investigation number. Ferris DPS wants anyone who is contacted about the “education tax” to immediately end the phone call and then contact the Ferris police department. No one should send cash, personal checks, money orders or any other form of payment in response to this call.

Anyone who believes that they have been targeted, or has any questions, should contact the Ferris DPS at (231) 591-5000.
