Ferris State University’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter will host its major fundraising event of the year, Za Best of Za Best. This second annual pizza-tasting competition is hosted in support of the Ferris PRSSA chapter and Angels of Action, a local charity that provides food to children in need.
Students and community members are invited to attend this public pizza-tasting event on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Interdisciplinary Resource Center Connector in Big Rapids. Za Best of Za Best includes music, games and more.
“We’re hoping for an even bigger turnout this year because we have really pushed the community involvement aspect of our organization and PRSSA has worked even harder to promote this year’s event,” said PRSSA Vice President of Social Affairs Scout Sparks. “PRSSA hopes to welcome at least 1,000 guests from the campus and community to promote collaboration between Big Rapids and Ferris.”
For $5, event attendees receive a punch card for a drink and a slice of pizza from
several local vendors. After sampling pizza from the vendors, attendees have the opportunity
to vote for which vendor has the best pizza. Last year’s inaugural event winner was
Jet’s Pizza.
This year's confirmed pizza vendors include:
- Jet's Pizza
- Lucky Louie's
- Pizza Hut
- Pizza King
- The Rock Café
The community outreach is important to Za Best of Za Best’s organizers, Ferris’ PRSSA chapter.
“It’s incredibly important to be involved in the community and by teaming up with our philanthropy, Angels of Action, we’re hoping to showcase the value of volunteer work while supporting a great cause,” said PRSSA Vice President of Community Outreach Kate Bewak. “This organization helps feed children within Mecosta County. So, this little bit of money that people will be paying at this event will help provide a meal to a child on the weekends.”
This year, event proceeds will be divided between supporting Ferris PRSSA and the organization’s philanthropy, Angels of Action. Angels of Action is a nonprofit organization that fights childhood hunger by providing children, ranging from kindergarten through fourth grade, backpacks with food.
