Office of Multicultural Student Services to Host Black History Month Events

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual monthlong celebration of the achievements by black Americans and to recognize the role of African Americans in U.S. history. Black History Month has been recognized every February since 1976.

Here is a list of events hosted by Ferris State University's Office of Multicultural Student Services as part of Black History Month:

Thursday, Feb. 5: Join students and staff for a movie and discussion on “The Butler.” The movie will start at 6 p.m. in the OMSS Office (FLITE, Suite 159). This event is co-sponsored by NAACP.

Friday, Feb. 6: The 2015 Image Awards will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center, Room 202. This event is presented by Black Leaders Aspiring for Critical Knowledge (B.L.A.C.K.).

Wednesday, Feb. 11: Guest speaker Dr. Juwanza Kunjufu will take place at 7 p.m. in the University Center, Room 202A. This event is co-sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha and the Diversity and Inclusion Office.

Thursday, Feb. 19: Join students and staff for a movie and discussion on “Half of a Yellow Sun.” The movie will begin at 6 p.m. in the OMSS office (FLITE, Suite 159). This event is co-sponsored by the African Student Union.

Wednesday, Feb. 25: “One Night in Harlem,” A student tribute to the Harlem Renaissance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center, Room 202A.

Thursday, Feb. 26: Join students and staff for a movie and discussion on “Malcom X.” This movie will begin at 6 p.m. in the OMSS Office (FLITE, Suite 159). This event is co-sponsored by you Beautiful Black Woman.

All events are free and open to the public.
