Important Dates for End of Fall 2015 Semester, Beginning of Spring 2016

Ferris State UniversityThe University Events Calendar highlights a number of important dates that faculty, staff, students and others should take note of as the semester comes to a close.

These important dates are from the end of the Fall 2015 semester and beginning of the Spring 2016 semester.

Here are some of those key dates from commencement through the first week of classes to start the Spring 2016 semester:

Saturday, Dec. 19

Of the students who will graduate, in Fall 2015, approximately 660 will participate in the two ceremonies hosted in Jim Wink Arena of the Ewigleben Sports Complex on the Big Rapids campus. This fall’s commencement speaker is Phil Middleton, a professor in the College of Arts, Sciences and Education and a past recipient of Ferris’ Distinguished Teacher Award.

Doors open for the 10 a.m. ceremony at 9 a.m. The morning ceremony honors graduates from the colleges of Arts, Sciences and Education, Education and Human Services, and Engineering Technology. Doors open for the 1:30 p.m. ceremony at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session highlights graduates of the colleges of Business and Health Professions.

Tuesday, Dec. 23

All university offices close for winter break at the end of the work day on Wednesday, Dec. 23 and reopen on Monday, Jan. 4 at 8 a.m.

Saturday, Jan. 2

1 p.m., Jim Wink Arena – Women’s Basketball hosts Findlay

Ferris Women's Basketball

3 p.m., Jim Wink Arena – Men’s Basketball hosts Findlay

Ferris Men's Basketball

Sunday, Jan. 3

1 p.m., Jim Wink Arena – Women’s Basketball hosts Wayne State

3 p.m., Jim Wink Arena – Men’s Basketball hosts Wayne State

Monday, Jan. 4

Administrative offices reopen.

Wednesday, Jan. 6

Residence halls reopen.

Late registration period for the Spring 2016 semester begins, and runs through Jan. 8.

Monday, Jan. 11

The first day of spring semester classes.

The “drop/add” period for classes begins and runs through 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14.
