Salowich Named Torch Editor-in-Chief for 2015-16 Academic Year

Keith SalowichFerris State University’s Keith Salowich will serve as editor-in-chief of The Torch, the student newspaper, during the 2015-16 academic year.

Salowich, a freshman majoring in Biology from Taylor, Mich., started with The Torch this year as a sports reporter. During the year, he was promoted to sports editor.

“I’ve been, in some way, involved with newspapers for much of my life,” Salowich said. “My dad was a writer for more than 20 years, so I think it’s safe to say that newspaper ink is pretty much in my blood.”

Salowich’s main goal is to see the publication continue its growth. He still believes in the value of a print newspaper, but he would also like to see the expansion of the paper’s online presence.

“I’ll go to my grave believing that it’s tremendously important to keep physical copies of the paper in circulation,” he said. “The role of online media can always be expanded to help spread word to more people, faster.”

Salowich hopes to continue to tell the stories of Ferris and its students.

“To be honest, I’ve kept one copy of every issue of the paper that was releases this year,” said Salowich. “I fully plan on rifling through them all, again, someday to reminisce.”

For the 2015-16 academic year, Salowich will be backed by a team of section editors, including:
