Student Alumni Gold Club to `Cover the Seal' for DeVos Children's Hospital

Ferris State UniversityFerris State University students, faculty and staff are encouraged to donate some of their loose change to help “Cover the Seal” and raise money for a good cause.

Student Alumni Gold Club members will be collecting change on Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the North Campus Quad. SAGC members use the change to cover the Ferris State University seal. A student leadership organization, SAGC serves as an official chapter of Ferris’ Alumni Association. The group hosts the annual event as an outreach opportunity and to give to a good cause. “Cover the Seal” proceeds benefit the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

“Some former members of SAGC have been diagnosed with life-changing illnesses and value the importance of medical research,” said Brandi Behrenwald, Ferris’ assistant director for Alumni Relations and advisor for SAGC. “This event is all about raising awareness and giving back at the next level.”

The last time this event was held, in 2012, SAGC raised more than $1,500 toward the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

“Cover the Seal is a great way to get involved within the community,” said Kelsey Bunce, president of SAGC. “All of the proceeds go to a really good cause.”

The first 500 people to donate $3 or more will receive a T-shirt, sponsored by SAGC and the Alumni Association. Bunce, a senior from Big Rapids majoring in Secondary Social Studies Education, said that the T-shirts sell out every year.

Behrenwald noted that SAGC considers “Cover the Seal” to be one of their signature events and are happy to be back after a break due to construction on the north side of campus.
