Ferris State University will be hosting a series of events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage
Month from mid-September through early November.
“Students can look forward to a series of student-led events coordinated by the Hispanic Student Organization, Spanish Club and Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc., and featured presentations such as the Latin Movie Night, the nationally-acclaimed group Las Cafateras and artist Alma Suarez,” said Michael Wade, assistant director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services.

Tuesday, Sept. 23: Hispanic Heritage Celebration Mixer
The Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee will host the campus community for a mixer beginning at 11 a.m. in the Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center, IRC 131. The event will include authentic foods and music and will serve as an opportunity for the campus community to connect and find out more about events scheduled for the 2014 celebration.
Wednesday, Sept. 24 Latin Film Night
This event will feature the comedy/drama “Instructions Not Included” (No se Aceptan Devlouciones—the original title). Latin Film Night starts at 7 p.m. in the Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center, IRC, Room 131.
Thursday, Sept. 25: Sigma Lambda Gamma Yard Show
The ladies of Sigma Lambda Gamma will be on the North Campus Quad stage at 8:30 p.m. to present their Fall 2014 Yard Show.
Tuesday, Sept. 30: A Taste of Hispanic Culture
The campus community is invited to the Rock Café for a lunch that will feature a variety of Hispanic dishes. For those who do not have a meal plan, lunch costs $9.50. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 14: Piñata Craft Workshop
Sigma Lambda Gamma and the Hispanic Student Organization invite the campus to a night of piñata making starting at 7 p.m. in the Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center in IRC, Room 131.

Thursday, Oct. 17: Two Cultures, One Struggle
The Hispanic Student Organization and Black Leaders Aspiring for Critical Knowledge will co-host an open discussion on the similarities and differences between Hispanic and African American cultures. This event begins at 7 p.m. in IRC, Room 120.
Tuesday, Oct. 28: Las Cafeteras
Las Cafeteras have taken the music scene by storm with their combination the vibrant energy of Son Jarocho music with an edgy LA sound and political message. Join them for a workshop beginning at 7 p.m. in the College of Business, Room 111, and a performance at 8:30 p.m. in the IRC Connector.
Monday, Nov. 3: Dia De Los Muertos with Artist Alma Suarez
Guest artist Alma Suarez will be at on campus to facilitate Dia de los Muertos, a cultural celebration that honors the dead with festivals and celebrations. This event begins at 1 p.m. in the West Campus Community Center.
