Summer Internship Journal: Chloe Tooson, Week 1

May 19, 2014

By Chloe Tooson

My name is Chloe Tooson and I am a double major in Public Relations and Music Industry Management. I am also working on my associate degree in Marketing. When I return to Big Rapids, in the fall, I will be a sophomore. While at school, I am one of the desk service assistants at Brophy/McNerney. Westland, Mich. is my hometown and is located in the southeastern part of the state, in Metro Detroit.

This summer I am doing a Marketing, Public Relations and Music Industry Management internship at the Chene Park Amphitheatre in downtown Detroit. Chene Park is an outdoor covered facility that seats 6,000 people. The amphitheatre is located directly on the riverfront and looks out to Canada. This concert venue is mainly used for R&B, jazz and hip hop artists but is open to all genres and types of events. This summer, we are hosting events such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, three high school graduations and, as of now, 25 concerts. Of those concerts, we have a jazz series comprised of 10 Wednesday nights, our Summer Soul Series, featuring New Edition, Fantasia The Whispers and Joe.. We also have the Hot 107.5 Summer Jamz concert featuring Rick Ross and B.o.B, and other separate concerts.

The previous week was my first week at Chene Park. We had our summer employment job fair where it was my job to take pictures of the event as it was going on so the marketing coordinator could upload those to all of our social media sites. I was given a separate phone for the summer that I have all of the social media information on.

For this internship my main objective is running the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Other than that I have been putting concert flyers together in preparation of the up coming concert season.
