Wayne State Professor Corvino, 'The Gay Moralist,' to Speak at Ferris on Nov. 14

John CorvinoJohn Corvino, a Wayne State University philosophy professor known as “The Gay Moralist,” will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Ferris State University’s Williams Auditorium. The 5-Star event is free and sponsored by Entertainment Unlimited.

The author, philosopher and recipient of the 2004 Spirit of Detroit Award will be discussing “Haters, Sinners and the Rest of Us: The Gay Debate Today.” Corvino, who has 15 years of speaking experience, will promote a better conversation of understanding both sides with facts, sensitivity and humor.

“Corvino’s discussion on gay rights is not only for the LGBT community, but it is an opportunity for all mindsets to hear a logical argument about this controversial topic,” said Megan Squanda, publicity coordinator for Entertainment Unlimited. “Dr. Corvino eases into the topic and seeks to convince with the truth while looking at the matter from both sides.”

Corvino was named one of the Top 25 LGBT Favorites from Campus Pride and was runner-up in 2012 America’s Best Campus Speakers from Campus Activities Magazine.

“Entertainment Unlimited celebrates diversity and would like to make students aware of the many different viewpoints expressed here at Ferris,” Squanda said. “Even if you’re not of the LGBT community, this is a great event to go to for you to broaden your horizons on this topic.”
