Matthew Adeyanju has accepted an appointment as dean of Ferris State University’s
College of Health Professions, effective July 15. The announcement was made by Fritz
Erickson, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.
“Dr. Adeyanju has high regard for the success of his students as well as the success of his faculty and staff within the college,” Erickson said. “Many of his professional successes thus far have been tied to quality assurance of academic programs and collaborative opportunities for engagement for students and faculty that further enrich the learning experience. We look forward to the energy and leadership he will provide for the college and the university.”
Adeyanju was professor and chair for the Department of Social and Public Health in the College of Health Sciences and Professions and campus program coordinator for the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health Program at Ohio University. Adeyanju has provided the vision and leadership for the development of an online MHA program at Ohio University which has grown from 15 students in 2009 to around 400 students presently. In addition, the department has experienced enrollment growth over the past 10 years. Prior to joining Ohio University, Adeyanju was a coordinator for the Health Education/Health Promotion Graduate Program at the University of Kansas where, for nine years, his assistance to prepare students for the Certified Health Education Specialist examination resulted in over 90 percent of his students successfully passing the exam. He is a Certified Health Education Specialist and Master Certified Health Education Specialist.
Adeyanju has served as a national advisor for the World Health Organization (WHO)/World Bank Project on Community Action for the Promotion of Water Supply and Sanitation Systems in Nigeria, coordinated the Instructional Division of the WHO Training Center for Health Personnel (Nigeria), and served as a public health educator for the Federal Ministry of Health, Health Education Division of Public Health Services in Lagos, Nigeria. He was recently named an American Association for Health Education Fellow. Adeyanju earned a doctoral degree from the University of Illinois.

Note: The College of Health Professions is currently known as the College of Allied Health
Sciences. The name change takes effect July 1, 2012.
