Four Injured on Construction Site

BIG RAPIDS – At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, four construction workers were apparently hit by lightning while on site in the Ferris State University parking lot located near Williams Auditorium on the corner of Cedar and State streets. Each person was transported to Mecosta County Medical Center in different levels of medical distress yet to be determined. The individuals are employees of J. Ranck Electric of Mount Pleasant, a subcontractor of Clark Construction which is managing utility infrastructure upgrades to Ferris’ campus. The construction crews have been on site with a directional boring machine, which is used to install new electrical service conduits. At this time, no further details regarding the incident are available. Along with Ferris personnel, the Ferris Department of Public Safety and Big Rapids Department of Public Safety responded to the scene. Our thoughts and concerns are with the injured workers and their families.
