BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

For the second consecutive week, Ferris State University men's tennis junior standout Kevin Kovacs has been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Kovacs, a Business Administration major from Toronto, led the Bulldogs during last week's spring break competition to Florida.

The Bulldog standout started the week by recording a pair of wins against Florida Southern College, which included a straight-set sweep at one singles and a doubles win at the third flight. He picked up two more wins on Tuesday in a 7-0 triumph over Augustana, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win at one singles and a 6-0 decision at three doubles.

His lone setback of the week came to the nation's No. 28 ranked Marc Mail of nationally-ranked Embry-Riddle in a tightly-contested 5-7, 6-0, 5-7 decision on Thursday when he also moved up to two doubles and recorded a close 7-6 (7-4) win while paired with Felipe Iser.

In Ferris State’s final match of the competition against Eckerd on Friday, the duo posted a 6-4 win at two doubles and he won 6-2, 6-2 at one singles before play was halted due to weather.

For the week in Florida, he finished with an overall 7-1 record, including a 3-1 singles mark and a 4-0 doubles record as Ferris State improved to 9-3 overall this year.

The Bulldogs are next slated to begin GLIAC play on the road at Davenport on March 27.
