Ferris State’s Kadyn Blanchard becomes women’s basketball team’s all-time leading scorer in dominating win over Lake Superior State

Ferris State University women’s basketball player Kadyn Blanchard became the team’s all-time leading scorer, and two teammates scored their 1,000th career point in a dominating win over Lake Superior State University.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 19 in the nation, dominated the Lakers 90-59 on Saturday at home in the Jim Wink Arena.
Senior standout Blanchard became the Bulldogs' all-time career scoring leader, notching 23 of her game-high 25 points in the opening half to top the school record previously held by Lucy DeMartin, who played from 2000 to 2004 and was inducted into the Ferris State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020.
Blanchard, a Freeland resident who is completing a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, finished the game with 1,724 career points.
Mia Riley, an Optometry major from Fowler, and Mya Hiram, an Onsted native also seeking a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, notched milestones in the game, each earning their 1,000th career point.
The Bulldogs built a commanding 53-point first half and 19 steals overall. The team maintained a 38-point advantage midway through the third quarter, highlighting a dominant defensive performance.
Blanchard led Ferris State with 25 points, converting 9 of 12 attempts from the field, including three 3-pointers, and also collected four steals.
Hiram contributed with a double-double, posting 16 points and securing 10 rebounds, along with six assists and six steals. Emma Schierbeek added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting and recorded two steals. Elle Irwin finished with seven points and dished out three assists while also tallying two steals.
With the win, Ferris State improved to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in the GLIAC this campaign.
FSU will host Saginaw Valley State on Monday, Jan. 26, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. inside Wink Arena.
