Ferris State softball team’s Emma Gillard named GLIAC Player of the Week

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — 

Ferris State University outfielder Emma Gillard was honored as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Gillard, a Nursing major from Ravenna, led the Bulldogs to wins in three of four games on the road last weekend, hitting a team-leading .692 overall with nine hits, seven RBIs and six runs scored in the four-game stretch.

The Bulldog veteran also produced two triples and a double while drawing a walk in 13 at-bats as Ferris State swept Roosevelt University on Friday before earning a split against Parkside University on Saturday in Romeoville, Illinois.

The junior slugger finished the weekend with a 1.077 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base performance in addition to stealing three bases. She had two hits or more in all four games and drove in two runs in three different outings for Ferris State, which improved to 21-16 overall this year.

The Bulldogs will host West Michigan rival Grand Valley State University on Saturday, April 11, along with Purdue University - Northwest on Sunday, April 12 in conference action at the Ferris State Softball Field. Both doubleheaders get underway at 1 p.m.
