BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

A trio of Ferris State University basketball standouts and a hockey player Tyler Schleppe have been honored as Players of the Week by their conferences after outstanding performances.

Women's basketball senior Mya Hiram was chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.

Ferris State had a clean sweep of the men's awards with sophomore Tae Boyd named GLIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week and junior Owen Hardy selected as the GLIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.

The three awards reflect the games played by Ferris State on Feb. 9 at Roosevelt University and Feb. 14 against Saginaw Valley State University.

This week represents the first time in each of their collegiate careers in which Hiram, Boyd or Hardy have been honored as the GLAIC Player of the Week.

Hiram, an Onsted resident seeking a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, had a big week as the 17th-ranked Bulldogs won a pair of league road games. She averaged 18.0 points with 9.0 rebounds per game as FSU won at Roosevelt 81-53 before a decisive 93-65 win at Saginaw Valley State.

The Ferris State veteran shot 52 percent from the floor and went nine-of-nine at the free throw line while netting 36 points, 18 rebounds, four blocked shots, three assists and two steals for the week.

She had 16 points with 13 rebounds and three blocks in a double-double effort at Roosevelt before coming back with 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in the win at SVSU, helping the Bulldogs to the program's 20th win this campaign.

Meanwhile, Boyd averaged 24 points and five rebounds in two games this past week as the Bulldogs earned a key road split to remain in contention for a GLIAC Tourney berth. Boyd tallied 48 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while shooting 56.7 percent from the floor and going 10-of-13 at the line.

The Business Administration major and Grand Blanc resident tallied a team-high 26 points with six rebounds and three assists in Monday's setback at Roosevelt before coming back with 24 points, four rebounds and two assists on Saturday in a 75-69 win at Saginaw Valley State.

Hardy had perhaps the biggest week of his Bulldog career, tallying 11.5 points and 15.0 rebounds with 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists in a Ferris State road split. The 6-10 standout notched 23 points, 30 rebounds, six blocked shots and four assists in matchups versus Roosevelt and Saginaw Valley State.

Hardy totaled 12 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and five blocks on Monday in a narrow road setback at Roosevelt before coming back to record 11 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and a block on Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 75-69 win at SVSU, helping keep the team in contention for a potential GLIAC Tournament berth.

On the ice, Schleppe was named Forward of the Week by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

Schleppe, a Finance major from Vancouver, British Columbia, had four goals and an assist against Northern Michigan University to lead all CCHA skaters in goals and points as Ferris State captured five of a possible six points in the weekend series.

He recorded his second career three-point game Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 6-0 win that included his first short-handed goal at the collegiate level.

Schleppe recorded two goals in both games this weekend and now has points in five straight dating back to Jan. 31 against Minnesota State. He was plus-3 in Saturday's win, scored a power play goal Friday and won 20 faceoffs in the series.

Schleppe's league recognition marked the second time this season a Bulldog skater has been named Forward of the Week. Previously, Gavin Best was tabbed as the CCHA Forward of the Week for Oct. 13. It was also the first time Schleppe has received league recognition in his career.
