Student-produced Ferris Sports Update television show shares the Bulldog story behind the scores

Ferris Sports Update, the weekly television program that dives deeper into Bulldog athletics, has kicked off its 16th season, featuring updates on Ferris State University’s nationally top-ranked football team and other fall sports.
The 30-minute interview show airs Wednesday nights at 10:30 p.m. throughout the academic year on WFQX Fox 32, reaching viewers across much of Northern Michigan. It’s also available in the Grand Rapids metro area through Comcast cable and WKTV, a community access channel.
Produced by students in Ferris State University’s Television and Digital Media Production program, Ferris Sports Update offers fans exclusive access to stories from the heart of Bulldog Athletics. Through in-depth interviews with coaches, student-athletes, and support staff, the show highlights not just game results, but the dedication and effort behind each performance.
This season will also feature segments on individual student-athletes and selected highlights from recent Bulldog Athletics events.
Now approaching its 400th episode, Ferris Sports Update is a collaborative effort between the TDMP program and the Ferris State Athletics Department, with additional support from the Office of Admissions, University Advancement and Marketing, and the College of Business.
The show is hosted by Rob Bentley, associate athletics director for Communications, who is also the long-time radio voice of the Bulldogs and is now in his 26th year with Ferris State Athletics.
“It's been exciting to be part of the show for so many years and it provides us with an excellent platform to showcase our coaches, student-athletes and teams,” Bentley said. “This offers tremendous visibility for Bulldog Athletics and is an important part of our multimedia and broadcasting efforts.”
The production team consists of students enrolled in the TDMP program, led by faculty advisor Glen Okonoski, with engineering support from Bill Jung and faculty member Andrew Tingley.
“I believe the collaboration we have with this program is a ‘win’ for all areas in benefiting current students, attracting new students and representing student athletes and programs across many parts of Michigan and the Upper Peninsula,” Okonoski said. “Our students function as a team in the studio, fulfilling each role necessary to create the show, and there is added importance placed on their learning when they know their product will be seen by a wide audience.”
In addition to its television broadcast, Ferris Sports Update is available for free online via live and on-demand streaming.
