Ferris State’s School of Built Environment’s three-day career fair connects students with industry leaders

Ferris State University students got an up close look at careers in in-demand fields during the School of Built Environment’s three-day fall career fair at The Granger Center for Construction and HVACR.
The event showcased diverse career pathways in architecture, construction technology and management, facilities management, surveying, and heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration - all parts of the College of Engineering Technology.
The School of Built Environment has a long-standing tradition of preparing students for specialized, high-demand professions through its hands-on approach to learning. The annual career fair represents an important step in that mission, providing direct access to employers and setting the stage for future career success.
The career fair featured about 40 industry representatives each day, providing students with the opportunity to explore internships, summer positions, and full-time employment, while also participating in on-site interviews. Many employers are actively recruiting across multiple programs, recognizing the synergy between these disciplines.
“As both an instructor and former student of the HVACR program, I’m continually impressed by the interactions between our students and industry professionals,” professor Jake Guest said. “Each conversation is a chance for mutual learning, and it’s incredibly beneficial for students to discuss their career goals in a relaxed setting with mentors who are eager to guide them.”
Suzanne Miller, director of the School of Built Environment, emphasized the event’s role in preparing students for success beyond the classroom:
“Hosting the career fair at the Granger Center fosters meaningful mentorship opportunities for students outside the classroom,” Miller said. “By connecting students with employers, we aim to help them build essential soft skills and cultivate professional relationships that will serve them throughout their careers.”
