Ferris State women's golf team earns second-place finish at Bulldog Fall Classic
The Ferris State University women's golf team earned runner-up honors in its own Bulldog Fall Classic as play concluded on Sunday at the university’s Katke Golf Course.
The Bulldogs finished with a +27 figure for the 36-hole event, carding a 603 team figure. Ferris State had shot a 300 on Saturday before coming back with a 303 score in Sunday's final 18 holes.
The event was won by Grand Valley State University with a 583 team score. Thirteen schools from across the conference and region competed in the event. Lea Stotz of GVSU claimed medalist honors with a 140 total.
Ferris State was led by Taylor Musselman as she placed tied for fifth overall with a 149 effort. After shooting a 74 in round one, she finished with a 75 in round two.
The Bulldogs' Kamryn Shannon placed tied for ninth at 152, notching a final-round 80 after opening with a 72 in round one.
Meanwhile, Ashley Thomasma finished tied for 13th at 153 overall. She shot a 76 on Sunday following her opening-round 77 effort.
Lizzie Anderson came in tied 17th for Ferris State at 155 for the tourney, posting a 78 in the second round after beginning with a 77 in the opening round. Teamamte Kylie Walker also finished tied for 17th at 155 on rounds of 81 Saturday and 74 on Sunday.
Ferris State's Isabel Kelly competed as an individual and placed tied for 35th with a 161 total. She shot a 82 over the final 18 holes following an opening-round 79 score. Paige Anderson also took part as an individual and finished tied for 44th on rounds of 82 Saturday and 80 Sunday for a 162 figure.
Two other Ferris State golfers were also in the field as individuals with Morgan Seog taking a share of 56th place and Katelyn Walker tying for 69th place. Seog shot a 166 with an 81 in round one and an 85 in round two while Walker notched an 89 in the first round and a 87 in the last round for a 176 total.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 29 at the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invitational hosted by GVSU at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale. Full results are available online.
