Ferris State Accounting professor Emily Zoet honored by statewide organization for excellence in teaching

Ferris State University Accounting professor Emily Zoet is being honored by a statewide organization for excellence in teaching – the second major education honor she’s earned this year.
Zoet is being honored with the 2025 Excellence in Teaching Award, by the Michigan Association of CPAs, a statewide organization for certified public accountants.
The Troy-based organization has about 17,500 members. The awards spotlight the people and organizations shaping the future of the profession, with the group saying the honorees “reflect the innovation, leadership and service that make Michigan’s accounting community extraordinary.”
“Dr. Emily Zoet exemplifies teaching excellence through her innovative classroom practices, deep commitment to student success, and active engagement in the accounting profession,” the organization posted on its website.
“At Ferris State University, she integrates real-world experiences such as mock audits and VITA tax preparation while revitalizing the campus Accounting Association to strengthen student involvement and professional connections. Beyond the university, she serves on the MICPA board and contributes scholarship in sustainability accounting, reflecting a passion for expanding access to the CPA pathway and shaping the profession’s future.”
Zoet earlier this year was awarded the 2025 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. This award is given to educators who demonstrate outstanding teaching abilities within the academic realm.
Zoet worked in Finance and Accounting at Dow Chemical in Midland before joining the Ferris State team in 2015. She has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Central Michigan University and a doctorate from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
“Dr. Emily Zoet has given exceptional service to the College of Business, consistently going above and beyond in support of her students, colleagues, and the success of our programs,” said Linda M. Goulet, the college’s acting dean. “In addition to her dedication to students, professor Zoet led the team that created the College of Business's Strategic Plan last year. Her dedication as a mentor and leader within the department has made a lasting impact on both her peers and the next generation of accounting professionals.”
