Donations allow Ferris State’s Bulldog Pantry to stock up, taking stress off students during the holidays

Ferris State University’s Bulldog Pantry has been stocking up through donations from campus and the community, helping students facing food insecurity as the semester comes to a close.
The Bulldog Pantry is a free food pantry with resources available to all enrolled Ferris State students.
Items in the pantry include meat and dairy products, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, pasta, macaroni and cheese, rice and more. Individuals and organizations can support the Bulldog Pantry by, among other ways, donating new, unopened and unexpired food and hygiene products.
The Pantry is located in room 115 of the David L. Eisley Center, 805 Campus Drive, and is open Monday to Thursday.
Josh Olszewski, coordinator of the Center for Student Involvement, mentioned that operating the food pantry is his favorite part of his job right now. He feels that it allows him to focus on what’s important and remove barriers for students so that they can focus on other priorities.
“It’s so impactful, and you can see it in the students coming through,” he said. “Going to school is stressful enough, so for students not having to worry about where their groceries are coming from is a win.”
The Bulldog Pantry carries a variety of food items for students to choose from and receives shipments monthly to restock items. All currently enrolled students have access to use the Bulldog Pantry, and anyone can donate.
“We are always finding ways to create efficiency each month, as well as figure out what students want and need,” Olszewski said. “You can see on the students faces how grateful they are for this resource.”
