BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — 

Ferris State University women's basketball senior guard Kadyn Blanchard has been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Blanchard, a Master of Business Administration student from Freeland, helped lead the Bulldogs to a pair of GLIAC home wins last weekend.

The senior standout tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and six assists on Thursday evening in a 70-56 triumph over Saginaw Valley State and then came back with a team-high 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on Saturday in Ferris State’s 82-65 win over visiting Wayne State.

She also connected on four three-pointers in the win over the Warriors as Ferris State set a new school mark with 18 made treys.

For the week, Blanchard averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals as the Bulldogs improved to 10-3 overall and remained unbeaten in GLIAC play.

Ferris State is currently tied atop the GLIAC standings with rival and top-ranked Grand Valley State and the Bulldogs will host the Lakers on Thursday, Jan. 9, inside Wink Arena in a conference doubleheader.

The women's game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. and will be a rematch of last year's NCAA D2 Midwest Region Championship game won by the Bulldogs.

Ferris State will then host Davenport on Saturday, Jan. 11 in GLIAC play starting at 1 p.m.
