Ferris State basketball standouts Mykel Bingham and Kenzie Bowers earn GLIAC Player of the Week honors

Ferris State University junior forward Mykel Bingham of the men’s basketball team and senior guard Kenzie Bowers of the women’s team earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
Bingham, an Integrative Studies major from Grand Rapids, was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after a big weekend for the Bulldogs, ranked No. 4 in the nation. Ferris State wrapped up a four-game homestand with back-to-back wins over West Michigan rivals Grand Valley State University and Davenport University at Wink Arena.
He totaled 24 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals as Ferris State moved to 16-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 atop the GLIAC.
The junior forward netted 16 points and nine rebounds in Thursday's 77-63 win over GVSU before coming back with eight points, 11 boards, four assists, two steals and a block on Saturday as FSU rallied for a 74-68 win against the Panthers.
Bingham also shot 56 percent from the floor for the weekend and nailed three three-point shots.
The Bulldogs will travel to Parkside on Thursday, Jan. 16 along with Purdue Northwest on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a pair of league road contests.
Bowers, a Kent City resident working toward a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, was chosen as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Bowers stepped up for the Bulldogs over the weekend as Ferris State earned a conference home split versus GVSU and Davenport. She tallied a team-high 31 points, 17 rebounds, 11 assists and eight steals in the two games as Ferris State improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the GLIAC.
Bowers notched a team-high 19 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in Ferris State’s setback to nationally top-ranked GVSU on Thursday and then came back to total 12 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and six steals in an impressive all-around game as Ferris State dominated Davenport on Saturday.
For the weekend, she averaged 15.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4 steals.
The Bulldogs will travel to Parkside on Thursday, Jan. 16 along with Purdue Northwest on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a pair of league road contests.
