Ferris State’s Rec Fest event offers students opportunities to focus on health and wellness while meeting fellow students

Rec Fest event for students to get active and engaged
Ferris State students will have an opportunity to learn about the many ways they can get active with fitness, health, wealth and sports opportunities at Rec Fest on Monday, Aug. 26.
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University’s Rec Fest provides options for students to get active with fitness while having opportunities to compete and make friends.

“Primarily, Rec Fest is an opportunity for our club sports teams to introduce themselves to the students on campus,” said Justin Harden, director of University Recreation and Wellness Programs said. “Rec Fest is a recruiting tool for those clubs. Students enter our gym, meet our club sports organizations, and learn more about any club that draws their interest.”

The event is planned for 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 at the Student Recreation Center, 401 South Street.

Harden said Rec Fest presents options for students to get active with fitness while having opportunities to compete and make friends.

In addition to 30-plus club sports options available, Ferris State offers students opportunities for activity through various intramural sports they can join during the fall and spring semesters.

“There are usually 600 to 800 students that come through the doors during Rec Fest,” Harden said. “So, Rec Fest can be a great way to meet other students, especially if you’re a first-year Bulldog. So, even if you don’t plan on joining any IM teams or getting active, you can still tag along to make new friends.”

Harden also noted that Rec Fest has free items for attendees, including shirts, food and more while supplies last.
