Ferris State basketball standout Chloe Idoni earns Academic All-America honors for second time

Ferris State University senior standout Chloe Idoni, who led the Bulldog women's basketball squad to the program's first-ever NCAA Division II Final Four appearance this past season, was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team for the second consecutive season.

Idoni becomes the first-ever Bulldog women's basketball student-athlete to twice claim official Academic All-America honors by CSC or the organization's former name, the College Sports Information Directors of America.

 Idoni, a Fenton native, earned a 3.99 grade point average on a 4-point scale. She is an Early Education major.

She was among 15 standouts from across the country tabbed one of the three CSC Academic All-America squads, earning second-team distinction this season. Previously, she was also chosen by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as a GLIAC Commissioner's Award honoree for excellence.

The Bulldog senior was one of only two players from the GLIAC or the Midwest Region listed on one of the three Academic All-America squads along with Northern Michigan's Makaylee Kuhn, who was a third-team choice.

Last year, Idoni was tabbed by the organization as a third-team Academic All-America choice.

This year, only five student-athletes were named to each of the three Academic All-America squads.

Nominations are made by sports information directors from across the country and all student-athletes must carry at least a 3.50 overall grade point average to be eligible to earn Academic All-America laurels.

Idoni was tabbed as an academic all-district recipient before being voted as one of the Academic All-America performers.

She's among six Bulldog women's players all-time to earn Academic All-America laurels, joining Vicki Williams (1982), Debbie Killips (2002), Lucy DeMartin (2004), Rachel Folcik (2008) and Rachel McInerney (2018).

Idoni this season led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals for the first time in program history in her final campaign. She ranked among the GLIAC and nation's best, averaging a squad-high 16.7 points along with 6.0 rebounds per game as FSU compiled a school all-time best 26-6 overall record while claiming in the NCAA D2 Midwest Region Championship for the first-time ever.

As a team captain, Idoni helped the Bulldogs knock off the nation's No. 1 team three times this season and she finished the year with 26 double figure scoring performances, including 13 games with 20 points or more.

She claimed All-GLIAC First Team honors and was also named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. Idoni was also a first-team all-region choice this past year.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America program.
