The Life Sciences and Pre-Medical Illustration bachelor's program offers a powerful blend of scientific knowledge and visual storytelling. Bring together your passion for both art and health science as you prepare for in-demand careers in medical illustration, biomedical visualization, and science communication.
Through hands-on courses in human anatomy, biology, and digital illustration, you'll learn to translate complex medical and scientific concepts into accurate, engaging visuals. The program’s unique collaborative structure gives you access to science courses at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine and Grand Rapids Community College, while real-world partnerships with medical examiners, museums, and research labs provide valuable field experience.
By partnering with organizations such as the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Northern Michigan University Forensic Anthropology Research Laboratory, and the Grand Rapids Public Museum, you'll acquire practical experience by engaging in real-world projects.
Graduates are equipped to secure in-demand careers as scientific illustrators, animators, medical legal illustrators, and if desired, be well prepared for pursing a graduate degree. You'll be equipped to enter creative or scientific fields in healthcare, legal sectors, publishing, or as storyboard and comic artists in the entertainment industry.
The Life Sciences and Pre-Medical Illustration program gives you the opportunity to take courses at Michigan State University's (MSU) Grand Rapids location and Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). MSU is a leader in human anatomy classes while GRCC provides students with general biology and pathophysiology courses.
From illustrating the stages of a surgical procedures to creating accurate 3D models of human anatomy, a career in life sciences and pre-medical illustration demands both creativity and precision.
