Is online learning right for me?
Online learning provides great flexibility for busy learners. However,
online learning also demands a disciplined approach from learners.
Each instructor approaches class differently, but most require that
you participate in some online interaction at least weekly. Some
require participation at particular times or on specific days, but
most provide for flexibility in completing coursework throughout
the week.
The successful online learner will possess adequate
computer skills and knowledge, ability to manage their own time
and be self-directed in their studies. Learners must also have access
to a computer and to the Internet at times that meet course expectations
and individual schedules. Click
here for student readiness information. |

Online Class List Search
There are two ways for you to find the list of currently available online
courses.
- Go to the basic course search function, select the term you are interested viewing, select the subjects of interest and the attribute type "fully online" and execute the search. This list will show you what is being offered, but will not indicate if seats are left in the class.
- To additionally see if there are seats available in a class, you
need to login to MyFSU,
go to the My Academics tab, and look up a course through the student
services link.
Course Login
To access your class, you'll need to login to MyFSU and follow the information
in the WebCT/FerrisConnect Links box on the MyAcademics tab.
Internet Connection Speed
You will need to have consistent
access to a computer with online capabilities. Internet
connection speeds will affect the amount of information and the
rate that information may be accessed over the Internet. If you
connect to the Internet from home over a dial-up connection,
the download rate for accessing documents in your online course
will be significantly slower than would over a broadband connection.
If your online course includes accessing video or audio files,
or downloading PowerPoint files, there may be a several seconds
to several minutes wait before you can view the material. If
available in your area, you may want to consider a satellite
or cable modem connection.
Textbooks
If your class requires a textbook, you can purchase it online through
MBS (unless
otherwise noted). Click here for more information. Be
sure to order your textbooks as soon as possible so that you have them on hand
for the first day of class.
