BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University is launching a new tool to help match students with thousands of scholarships, making a quality education more accessible and affordable.

ScholarshipUniverse launches soon and will be available through Sunday, March 24 for all new and continuing students that will be attending Ferris State in the 2024-2025 academic year.

“We don’t want cost to be an obstacle to students getting an education that can transform their lives,” said Rebecca Grooters, Ferris State’s director of Financial Aid. “There are many different types of scholarships, and in the past, the application process might have seemed overwhelming. ScholarshipUniverse is a free tool designed to make it easier to connect students with millions of dollars of donor-based opportunities that might work for them.”

Ferris State has generous donors dedicated to supporting students. ScholarshipUniverse will help match eligible students with over 500 donor-based, Ferris-awarded scholarships, as well as more than 17,000 reputable external scholarship opportunities.

There are 385 direct-award scholarship opportunities that Ferris students may be considered for, without even logging in to ScholarshipUniverse.

Students that match the basic criteria for direct award scholarships – such as enrollment in a designated program or college, GPA requirement and other criteria that can be accessed through our academic database, will automatically go into the candidate pools for those awards.

Committees will then be able to select the award recipients from the candidate pools. Students are encouraged to log into ScholarshipUniverse to answer “matching questions” - which may include yes or no questions; multiple choice or in some cases essays, that can help match them with up to 95 additional scholarship opportunities.

The more questions students answer, the more potential scholarships they will be considered for. There is no limit on the number of scholarships students can apply for.

New and continuing students can gain access to ScholarshipUniverse through Ferris360, the university’s communication web portal. New student’s may gain access to Ferris360 using the student ID number from their admissions letter.

Additional information is available on the university's scholarships homepage. The university also has a financial aid hotline at (231) 591-2110 or [email protected] to help with questions about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid – also known as FAFSA – as well as scholarships, grants, loans and other financial matters.
