BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University’s annual One Day for Dawgs day of giving creates opportunities for students to grow and thrive, including creating experiences for students in the Risk Management and Insurance program.
Professor David Brown and his students in 2023 worked to connect community partners and personal networks to fundraise more than $5,000 in support of the program.

“We had a specific goal for this campaign – to increase the funding available to assist students in traveling to national competitions and establishing industry connections,” Brown said. “These competitions and conferences put our students on the forefront of the industry at major events around the world and help our students secure high-quality employment at industry-leading companies.”

One Day for Dawgs empowers university groups to raise funds for the causes they care most about. Ranging from scholarships and programs to equipment and more, this day of giving is an opportunity for the entire Ferris State community to support continued Bulldog success.

This year’s event is set for April 10, with additional information at Ferris.edu/oneday.

With support from the Ferris State community, Risk Management and Insurance students attended major events across the country, including The Risk Management Society’s national convention, RISKWORLD.
Convention travel assistance enabled students to attend events in San Diego, Atlanta, Denver, Boston, Chicago, and other major cities as well as help eliminate costs for events within the state.

The Risk Management and Insurance program at Ferris State averages 40 students a year, with Brown and College of Business professors encouraging every student to attend professional events.

“The opportunities that professional events like this provide to young students pursuing their education cannot be overstated,” he said. “In 2022 we were able to get 15 or so students to attend one of the events we recommend, including three of our graduating seniors. The most fulfilling part of what I do is getting to know them, see them grow as professionals, and ultimately secure employment – usually as a direct result of the work-ready skills they’ve developed and connections they’ve made through our program’s participation in these events.”

Brown is thankful for the support the RMI program and its students have received from donors and is looking forward to this year’s One Day for Dawgs day of giving.

“I’m so grateful for everyone who steps up and helps support our students and our program,” Brown said. “From our alumni to our donors and volunteers, the help available for our students on One Day for Dawgs and beyond is so incredible to experience and I know all of us here in RMI and at Ferris State are just so grateful for all that you do. Thank you.”
