Ferris State University invites application for Residence Hall Directors with the Office of Housing & Residence Life. Ferris State University is a state funded institution enrolling 14,381 students for the fall 2010 classes, including 9,931 on the main Big Rapids, Michigan Campus. The Big Rapids campus is located in scenic West Michigan on the Muskegon River near the Manistee National Forest. Big Rapids is surrounded by the great outdoors but we're within a 45 minute drive of a major urban city, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ferris State University has 20 Residence Halls (ranging in size from 110-380 residents) and a 238 unit apartment community on campus. Together these residential facilities house more than 4000 students on campus.
FSU HDs provide comprehensive supervision of 1-3 residence halls or the 300 bed suites complex East Campus Suites. Hall Directors recruit, train, supervise, and mentor residence hall staff; 6-17 Resident Advisors/Suite Advisors, 1-3 Desk Service Managers and 15-30 desk and security personnel, actively participate on departmental and university-wide committees, manage facilities, advise Hall Council and train RA staff to advise House Councils, coordinate programming/community development and provide overall leadership in the academic, social and emotional development of students. In addition, Hall Directors serve as conduct hearing officers adjudicating cases and recommending educational sanctions up to and including dismissal from the university.
This is a full-time 12 month, live-in position. Compensation package includes a $30,500 salary (with Master's degree), air conditioned apartment, meal plan, and a competitive benefits package.
Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field STRONGLY Preferred. Typically, our Hall Directors come to Ferris State having earned a student personnel degree and have served in a residence life graduate assistantship as a Hall Director or Assistant Hall Director. All current Ferris State Hall Directors have relevant master's degrees and previous residence hall supervision.
Required: Bachelor's degree with two or more years of progressive residential life experience and responsibility including; staff training, supervision/evaluation, program planning and implementation, facilities management, basic computer applications and student conduct experience. Demonstrated ability to proactively work with diverse populations is a must. High energy and fun loving candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
