Important Things to Know:
- All degree candidates are required to file a formal application for graduation no later than the mid-point of the semester prior to your anticipated graduation date.Your academic advisor will assist you with the completion of your graduation clearance form.
- If the application for graduation is not filed with the graduate's college Commencement Coordinator at least twelve weeks prior to the ceremony in which the graduate plans to participate, their name will not appear in the Commencement program. In order to have the program printed and back in time for the ceremonies we have to adhere to these deadlines.
-
Participating in commencement is not a certification of graduation, but rather a ceremony that celebrates each graduates academic achievements. Therefore, participation in any Commencement ceremony does not affirm that a graduate has satisfactorily completed all degree requirements. Graduates must satisfy all of their degree requirements before they receive their diploma.
Graduates are permitted to participate in Commencement if they are close to completing their graduation requirements. For example, if a graduate needs to take a course or two during summer semester to finish their program, they may participate in May Commencement or wait until December Commencement.
Ferris State University does not have a summer Commencement ceremony.
College of Professional and Technological Studies Students
Graduates in the College of Professional and Technological Studies who wish to participate in the Big Rapids ceremony will attend with their affliated college.
For example, a student graduating with a Criminal Justice degree will graduate with the College of Education and Human Services. Students recieving a degree in Industrial Technology and Management or Digital Animation and Game Design will graduate with the College of Professional and Technological Studies.
Graduates in programs at Dowagic, Flint, and Traverse City have the choice of attending their local ceremony, traveling to the main campus, or attending both.
If you are interested in attending a ceremony please contact your college's Commencement Coordinator.
