Institutional Review Board (IRB)

About IRB

The Ferris State Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a university committee comprised of voluntary Ferris faculty, staff and community members charged with the oversight and review of research involving human subjects. It is the responsibility of the IRB to ensure that the basic rights and welfare of research participants are protected.

Based on Federal Regulations (45 CFR 46) and University Policy, all research involving humans - including projects with human subject data - must be reviewed and approved by the IRB. Ferris employees and students involved on a research project related to human subjects, regardless of location, must have their project reviewed and approved by the IRB prior to beginning the research.

Investigators, including students, conducting research without the proper approval will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action. For questions on whether an activity requires IRB approval, contact the IRB for assistance.
