The state of Michigan's Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) provides financial assistance
to qualifying KCAD students enrolled in an associate degree or bachelor's degree program.

TIP Funding for New KCAD Students (Phase I)
How do I qualify for Phase I TIP funding?
To qualify for Phase I TIP funding, new KCAD students must:
- Be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more hours of credit) in either the Associate
of Arts in Art History degree program or the Associate of Fine Arts in Design degree
program
- Have (or have had) Medicaid coverage for at least 24 months within a 36 month period
between age nine and the time of high school graduation
- Obtain a high school diploma (or equivalent) prior to age 20
- Be no more than four years removed from high school completion
- Be a Michigan resident
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee
- NOT be in default on a Federal student loan
What does Phase I TIP funding cover?
Phase I TIP funding covers the cost of tuition for KCAD associate degree programs
at the current Ferris State University tuition rate* for residents of the US and Canada. Funding will only cover classes within the course
of study for your associate degree program, and reimbursement for mandatory fees cannot
exceed $250 per semester.
*NOTE: KCAD tuition rates for the Undergraduate Studio courses required in associate degree programs differ
from Ferris tuition rates.
How long can I receive Phase I TIP funding?
Phase I TIP eligibility ends 10 years after the date of the first assistance payment.
Phase I TIP benefits cannot exceed 80 hours of credit.
How do I apply for Phase I TIP Funding?
- Apply for admission to KCAD and be accepted into an associate degree program
- Complete the TIP application online by logging in to the MI Student Aid Student Scholarships and Grants Portal (you'll have to create an account if you do not already have one)
- Complete and file a current year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
TIP Funding for Current KCAD Students (Phase II)
How do I qualify for Phase II TIP funding?
To qualify for Phase II TIP funding, continuing KCAD students must:
- Have earned an associate degree OR completed at least 56 transferrable credit hours
of postsecondary (college) education
- Have (or have had) Medicaid coverage for 24 months out of any 36-consecutive-month period between sixth grade and twelfth grade
- Have obtained a high school diploma (or equivalent) prior to age 20
- Be no more than four years removed from high school completion
- Be no more than 30 months removed from completion of Phase I TIP funding requirements
(if applicable—students can received Phase II benefits without having received Phase
I benefits)
- Be a Michigan resident
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee
- NOT be in default on a Federal student loan
What does Phase II TIP funding cover?
Phase II TIP funding covers up to $2,000 in tuition and mandatory fees for KCAD undergraduate
programs. Funding cannot exceed $500 per semester.
How long can I receive Phase II TIP funding?
Phase II TIP eligibility ends 10 years after the date of the first assistance payment.
