Statement

My architectural philosophy is deeply rooted in understanding the lived experiences of people as they interact with and navigate through architecture. I am particularly focused on the pedestrian experience-how individuals move through and engage with built environments on a daily basis. My approach emphasizes the importance of creating spaces that go beyond mere functionality to foster a meaningful connection between people and their surroundings.

For me, architecture is not just about designing spaces; it is about enhancing the way people experience the world around them. I believe that architecture has the power to shape emotions, interactions, and communities. As such, my designs prioritize the human experience, considering every aspect of a space from the scale of an individual room to the broader urban context. My goal is to craft environments that are not only practical but also inspiring, promoting a sense of well-being and a strong sense of place.

Central to my design philosophy is a commitment to holistic design, where every element of a project works in harmony to create a cohesive and thoughtful outcome. I balance form and function, ensuring that the aesthetic, material choices, and spatial organization all align with the needs of the project and its users. I also value flexibility in my designs, creating adaptable spaces that can evolve with the changing needs of their occupants over time. Whether through modular design elements or multifunctional spaces, I believe that flexibility is key to creating spaces that remain relevant and useful as life circumstances shift.

I am particularly drawn to the exploration of interesting geometric forms in architecture. I recognize the power of geometry to influence not only the visual appeal of a space but also the way it feels and functions. I believe that geometry can evoke emotion, create rhythm, and guide movement within a space. My work seeks to create a sense of balance or tension through the careful use of geometric shapes, which can dramatically alter the atmosphere of a space and enhance the user experience.

Ultimately, my aspiration as an architect is to design spaces that elevate the everyday experiences of those who inhabit them. I aim to create environments that foster connection, belonging, and well-being, whether in public or private spaces. Through my designs, I hope to inspire individuals and communities, demonstrating how architecture can transform lives and shape the way people experience the world around them.

What my time at KCAD meant to me

Kendall College of Art and Design has been a transformative chapter in my journey toward becoming an aspiring architect. The experience of collaborating with my talented cohort has been one of the highlights, as I had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for design and creativity. The relationships and connections I've built with my peers have provided me with invaluable insights and challenges that have helped me grow, both as an individual and in my understanding of architecture.

During my time at KCAD, I gained a deep appreciation for the design process in architecture. I learned how to thoughtfully approach each project, breaking down complex ideas into functional and meaningful designs. This process taught me not only the importance of attention to detail and critical thinking but also how to balance creativity with practicality. Through this, I discovered foundational aspects of architecture that truly interest me, such as the relationship between form and function, the impact of spatial design on human experience, and the ways in which architecture influences daily life.

A particularly enriching aspect of my education was the opportunity to travel abroad to London. This experience broadened my horizons, offering a firsthand look at a diverse range of architectural styles and historical landmarks. The exposure to such a variety of innovative structures deepened my understanding of architecture's role in shaping culture, identity, and urban life. It also inspired me to think more expansively about the global impact of architecture and how design can transcend borders to connect people and places.

Looking back, my time at KCAD has provided me with the knowledge, skills, and experiences that will continue to shape my future as an aspiring architect. The education I've received, the connections I've made, and the opportunities I've had for growth have all played a significant role in refining my vision and passion for architecture. It has been a pivotal experience, one that has deeply influenced the architect I hope to become.
