Since my first introduction to architectural design, it has developed into a passion and desire that has come to define so much of who I am. I began my academic career with very little direction in terms of what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I hoped to discover what it would feel like to be on the path I was meant to take, one which would engage me fully and challenge me daily. In architecture, I found just that.
I am continuously intrigued by the multitude of opportunities within the discipline to push boundaries and question the norm. It is my belief that the field of architecture should be flexible in nature, meeting humanity where it is while also nudging it toward where it could be. There is incredible potential for growth in the way our structures can serve those that occupy them on a daily basis.
My time as an M.Arch student has helped me to further articulate my priorities as a designer and the part I wish to play in the future of the built diagram. What excites me as I think of what lies ahead for me within the field is the potential of bringing compassion and empathy, as well as equity and sustainability, to the projects that I will be involved with.My time at KCAD has contributed immensely to solidifying my position within the architectural profession. I have not only expanded my skill set, but have also made connections with peers and professors that have been invaluable in the process of becoming the designer and professional I am today.
I have developed a more systemized design process, which has led to a cohesive and comprehensive body of work that is true to how I see myself contributing to the profession. The integrated studio environment and overall structure of KCAD has allowed me to invest in a variety of interests and practice areas, in turn helping me to develop a more diverse perspective toward design and problem-solving.
