Through exploratory decisions with uncertain outcomes, my paintings revolve around themes of violence, degradation, and abjection. These compositions are intended to confront the viewer with disturbing imagery that draws awareness to the loss of autonomy as it relates to female existence.
These semi abstract, semi figurative female bodies are based on authentic autopsy and crime scene photos of deceased women whose deaths were the result of femicide. These paintings are representations of the violent climate and precarious reality women find themselves in historically and currently. My paintings are meant to address feelings of shock, horror, rage, and silence. My time at KCAD has been an amazing experience that has included some of the most rewarding experiences of art and community that I have had in my academic career.
