Frequently Asked Questions
Our program is built on hands-on learning and real-world expertise. Almost every construction
course in the first two years includes a lab component, allowing students to apply what they learn immediately.
Instructors are required to have a minimum of five years of full-time construction
experience. Many faculty continue to consult in the industry in the summer and during
the academic year. This ensures that students learn current industry practices, expectations,
and professional standards.
Graduates who actively engage in the program, gain work experience, and demonstrate
professional readiness consistently secure employment. In short: if you are employable,
placement is effectively 100%.
No. Students may begin the program in both the fall and spring semesters.
All construction courses are offered in both semesters, making the program transfer-friendly
and flexible for scheduling.
Most transfer students complete the program in approximately three years.
This timeline reflects carefully structured prerequisites, where each course builds
upon knowledge gained in earlier coursework to ensure academic and professional readiness
and to meet our accreditation requirements.
All students begin in the AAS in Building Technology (BCTM) because no external program
aligns exactly with our curriculum. This ensures that students receive the proper
foundational coursework before advancing into the bachelor’s program.
No. Construction courses are not offered during the summer by design.
Our Industry Advisory Committee strongly encourages students to use summers to work
in the construction industry, gaining valuable hands-on experience. This practical
exposure strengthens resumes, builds professional networks, and helps students identify
the areas of construction that best match their career goals.
An internship is not required, but students are highly encouraged to gain industry
experience during the summer.
Without a required internship structure, students have flexibility to explore different
areas of construction such as field operations, estimating, project management, preconstruction,
virtual design and construction (VDC), or skilled trades. This allows students to
make informed career decisions before graduation.
Yes. The school hosts dedicated career fairs each fall and spring, historically attracting:
120+ employers in the fall
50+ employers in the spring
In addition, employers regularly send job postings directly to the program, which
are shared with all students throughout the year.
