Electronic Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Goals
Ferris State University strives to provide a barrier-free technology environment to all members of the University community consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) section 504 and subsequent amendments.
In support of these efforts, we are committed to:
- Web development work that is high-quality and accessible.
- Ensuring the needs of all individuals are considered before technology solutions are implemented.
- Working closely with the Provost and the Disabilities Services Offices in their mission to assist students with disabilities.
- Partnering with the Ferris State University community, assisting with the review and development of accessibility solutions for new and existing technology services.
- Collaboration through a network of professional development providers who will maintain our commitment to accessibility.
Principles of Accessible Design
A list of some key principles of accessible design. Most accessibility principles can be implemented very easily and will not impact the overall "look and feel" of your website.
These one-page accessibility resources, or “cheat sheets,” have been developed to assist anyone who is creating accessible content. These free resources are catered to less-technical individuals, such as faculty and staff.
eLearning Resources at Ferris State University
The Ferris State eLearning Team offers many resources to help users create accessible materials as well as designing courses using Universal Design principles to provide the best possible instruction to all students.
Hoonuit Video Training Resource
Making your documents accessible ensures that all people to the best of their ability are able to access the content of your document. The Hoonuit video training resource will help users learn the skills to make accessible documents. The one-hour video course, Creating an Accessible Syllabus Using Acrobat Pro DC & Word 2016 (PC), is applicable to any document-type you want to make accessible. The Hoonuit video training resource is available to all Ferris employees and students. Learn how to access Hoonuit through the MyFSU portal.
Ferris Employees: Select the Employee tab in the MyFSU portal and then the Professional Development link. You will notice a link to Hoonuit under the Professional Development Quick Links.
