Kinky Boots

Members of the cast of Ferris State University’s production of “Kinky Boots” gather on the Williams Auditorium stage, preparing for performances of the award-winning musical from Thursday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 6.

A cast of about three dozen Ferris State University students supported by a crew of 15 are putting the finishing touches on the fall production of “Kinky Boots,” the winner of multiple Tony Awards and a Grammy. The group hosts the show on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, Nov. 3-5, and a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 6, in Williams Auditorium.

Ferris Professor of Theatre Katherine LaPietra said that with music from iconic artist Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein’s script, the actors have a fresh opportunity to present a show.

“Personally, I love the show, and it has just become available,” LaPietra said. “With a core message of inclusivity, we are thrilled to present it. Also, there is a lot of fun for our students and the audience.”

The musical debuted a decade ago, crafted from a 2005 British film of the same name. A young man who inherits his father’s shoe factory finds an unusual ally in the quest to diversify products and keep the business afloat. LaPietra said students of all ages from across the campus are bonding in their cast.

“It is a broad spectrum. We have students from the College of Health Professions, Arts and Sciences, and the College of Engineering and Technology, to name a few,” LaPietra said. “It seems our cast and crew run the gamut.”

Performances of “Kinky Boots” begin Thursday, Nov. 3, through Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday, Nov. 6 matinee starts at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available online with pre-sale at $8 and a charge of $10 at the door.
